Founder of Dolomitenlauf and co-initiator of Worldloppet died
Sad news is arriving us today from Lienz, Austria, the home of Dolomitenlauf. Franz Theurl, the OC President with an information to all friends of Dolomitenlauf and Worldloppet.
Dear friends of Worldloppet, I have to bring you sad news today: The founder of Dolomitenlauf and co-initiator of Worldloppet, our honorary president, Robert Steiner has passed away. For decades, Robert has shaped popular cross-country skiing far beyond Austria’s borders. He counts as the inventor of cross-country skiing sprints. The meanwhile famous city sprint in Lienz, was the first of its kind and brought a revolution to the sport of cross-country skiing.
We will honour his great merits for our joint movement and his work for cross-country skiing. We will dedicate the Dolomitenlauf 2023 in silent memory of our friend and long-time companion, Robert Steiner.
