Frenchmen showing their power at Dolomitenlauf
January 22, 2017
What a day in Obertilliach, Austria. Sunshine, temperatures around 0°C and perfectly groomed slopes made the 43rd Dolomitenlauf a great popular race. But not only the popular skiers enjoyed a great day of marathon skiing, but also the world’s elite. The Dolomitenlauf opened the FIS Worldloppet Cup season 2017 as 2nd stage (first stage in Autrans had to be canceled).
One thing is clear after the first cup race 2017: The French skiers are very hard to beat again this season, especially one woman.
Unbeatable Frenchmen in a lead
Eight out of the first ten places in the men’s competition of the 43rd Dolomitenlauf are going to France, so the Frenchmen showed their power already in the beginning of the FIS Worldloppet Cup season 2017. But we can expect a very exciting winter because among the top-ten we find four different teams and the 10th place is not even half a minute behind the winner.
Ivan Perrillat-Boiteux from Haute-Savoie Nordic Team again showed his sprinting skills and crossed the finish line 2 seconds before Pralong Candide from Team GEL interim Rossignol. The winner’s teammate Guigonnet Loic jumped on the podium too, just 2 seconds before the first non-french skier, a newcomer in the cup, Varis Kari from Finland. Perrillat’s summary: “Our team is very strong this season and I am happy to have this team. I also love the competition with the Rossignol team. Of course I am happy about my victory today and about wearing the red bib now, but this was only the first race of a long and hard season.”
Aurelie Dabudyk is still the strongest woman
The ladies competition in the FIS Worldloppet Cup 2017 starts, as the whole last season was looking like. Aurelie Dabudyk (FRA) – also HSNT – managed to stay on top of the ranking. She won the Dolomitenlauf last year, she won it this year. She won the overall ranking of the cup last year, if she will win it again this year we will see in the beginning of April. But one thing is for sure, whoever wants to beat her, has to be very strong. 53 seconds is the gap between her and second placed Rahel Imoberdorf from Switzerland (SAS&tg hütten team). “I am very happy today. It was just a perfect race for me. The conditions were great and also my shape. At the beginning of the final lap I attacked Rahel for the first time but it didn`t work out, so I tried it again and again and finally I got away from her.”Another Swiss skier, Seraina Boner from GEL interim Rossignol, fulfilled the podium. The Estonian former FIS Worldloppet Cup overall winner Tatjana Mannima became 4th in her come-back after a baby break.

Franz Theurl, the Chief of Organisation Committee, is also very satisfied with the 43rd Dolomitenlauf: “We had a perfect race today and also yesterday. This was not granted after the weather situation of the past moths. But all the people who helped to make this happen did a very good job and I want to thank them. I also want to congratulate the winners for their avicement.”
