Alvar Myhlback and Stina Nilsson fulfill Swedish Dream at Vasaloppet 2025
08:00 on March 2nd the start gun of the 101st Vasaloppet sent 15.800 skiers on their 90 km long way from Sälen to Mora. In the elite group at the front of the 101st Vasaloppet were 298 competitors, including 74 women. “There are many who could win and even more who want to,” said two-time winner Andreas Nygaard before the start. After huge efforts by the organizers over the past days, the tracks were in good condition. Not only on the tracks 2025’s Vasaloppet turned out to be a Swedish dream, but also in the finish: Alvar Myhlback and Stina Nilsson bring an all-Swedish victory.

Alvar Myhlback wins Vasaloppet 2025
Alvar Myhlback lets the Swedes celebrate! For the second time he is standing on the podium of Vasaloppet now. In 2024 he became 3rd with only 17 years old, now in 2025 he is standing on top and with his 18 years, he is the youngest Vasaloppet winner in history. In a close-to-record-time of 03:28:45 (only 27 seconds missing on Tord Asle Gjerdalen’s record from 2021) he crossed the finish line in Mora first and can now call himself Vasaloppet winner.
“I have never felt better in my entire life. This is absolutely unreal. It’s been a tough season for me so far, and this is just insane. I could die happy now – I can’t believe it.”, he said to SVT in the finish.
His compatriot and team mate from Team 157 Lager Emil Persson finished second right behind him and Max Novak – also from Sweden – makes the Swedish dream complete finishing third.

Stina Nilsson fastest lady at Vasaloppet 2025
In the ladies competition another Swede claimed the victory today: Stina Nilsson, Sweden’s World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist dominated the race from beginning to end. From Smagan on she took the lead and never gave it back. Indeed, local skier Stina Nilsson from Malung-Sälen continued to extend her advantage and reached Oxberg with a lead of 4:48, closing in on the course record. At Hökberg, she was two seconds ahead of Astrid Öyre Slind’s record pace.
Stina would begin to tire and slow down, but she was still able to ski alone down the final stretch towards the finish. “I was sooo tired at the end,” were her first words in the finish. Stina Nilsson’s finishing time of 3:54:00 was the third-fastest winning time in history. She won five minutes ahead of runner-up Anikken Gjerde Alnaes and third-placed Silje Öyre Slind, who had skied together since Mångsbodarna.
“Absolutely amazing. But I wasn’t sure. I didn’t take anything for granted until I crossed the finish line because I was really exhausted at the end. I wasn’t a favourite today; I really value this win, I mean, I live between Mora and Sälen, so it’s incredible to experience this. In a way, this journey started last May with Team Ragde, and I’m so grateful to have reached this point with them.”, Nilsson said at the awarding ceremony.
- Stina Nilsson, SWE 03:54:00
- Anikken Gjerde Alnes, NOR +05:11
- Silje Öyre Slind, NOR +05:11
- Emilie Fleten, NOR +11:43
- Louise Lindström, SWE +11:44

Worldloppeters at Vasaloppet 2025
On Friday evening the Organizers have invited all Passport Holders to a Welcome Gathering in the historic Nisses Hus in Mora. While Tommy Höglund and Cathrine Mörk from the OC welcomed the skiers, Vasa-legend Rolf gave a tour through the museum.
A minimum of 350 skiers have been collecting a stamp in their Worldloppet Passport during the main race this weekend. One skier from the USA has been awarded a Worldloppet Master after finishing the Öppet Spår event earlier this week. But it was not the first title for him: Jay Wiener now is 19 times Master.
