Justyna Kowalczyk wins WL debut of Ushuaia Loppet

In its first year as a full member of Worldloppet, Argentina´s Ushuaia Loppet opend the season 2015/16 on August the 8th. Best snow conditions since 15 years in the Valley of Tierra Mayor northeast of Ushuaia allowed the Club Andino Ushuaia to organize a great event. The number of participatiants in the Ushuaia Loppet freestyle marathon tripled to 126 skiers from 19 different countries. One of that countries was Poland, the home of the women´s winner and overall second, Justyna Kowalczyk. The title for the men´s winner of the 42k competition stays in Argentina: Carlos Lannes – who also competed at the last four World Championships and at Olympia – won the fifth and inaugural Worldloppet edition of Ushuaia Loppet in a time of 1:51:55 – one second in front of Justyna Kowalczyk.

According to Ushuaia Loppet and Marchablanca CEO, Pablo Valcheff, the biggest reason for Ushuaia Loppet 2015´s great success is related to the addmittance to Worldloppet: “It was a big day for us and I want to emphasize that – especially being a Worldloppet member – we now get a chance to keep building on each year’s successes. We tripled our numbers, had a noticeable affect on the local tourism economy, and we intend to keep making Ushuaia an important part of the cross-country world in order to serve skiers. This is a mission that we intend to carry over the long term and we’re grateful for our fortune so far.”

The full result is also available on Ushuaia Loppet´s website.
