König Ludwig Lauf

König Ludwig Lauf 2023 result, masters and first images

Thousands of skiers have made their way to the Bavarian village Oberammergau this weekend to participate in the traditional König Ludwig Lauf. First, it was unclear if the race could take place, as a short time before the race weekend there was no snow in the area. Then, only in the week before the race, finally, the snow has arrived and it was clear: König Ludwig Lauf 2023 is going to take place.

But the past three days before the start in Ettal it started to rain and more or less never has stopped anymore. But, even though, the start area had its own swimming pool this year, the OC team was able to somehow prepare a track, that is skiable and in a pretty good condition considering the circumstances. So, on both days, Saturday in Free Technique and on Sunday in Classic Technique, thousands of marathon skiers have made their way over 42 and 21 km from Ettal to Oberammergau.

“I saw countless groomers, trucks hauling snow, individuals shoveling the bare spots, etc…. Total commitment to this race weekend ! After Mother Nature gave us a “soggy” start this morning – it turned into a beautiful race course. A huge thank you to the entire Konig staff and volunteers!”, was a comment in the Facebook group Worldloppet Skier’s Forum.
