Last weekend the Vth Traditional Demino Cross-Country Cycling marathon 2013 took place in the Ski Sport Centre Demino.
Big cycling-weekend was opened on Saturday, August, 24, 2013 with children’s races. Young athletes from 2 to 12 years old kicked off. Despite of their age, it was immediately clear, that they had come not for participation, but for victory! All participants got medals, diplomas and prizes from sponsors. This year the number of young participants has increased twice.
After children’s races “up and down” race with an interval start was held. So, according to this race 15 best athletes acquired a right to start from elite corridor of the main race. In Saturday evening “Pasta-party” with prize ceremony and briefing were under way.
Every year the number of Demino cycling marathon participants grows. On Sunday, August, 25, athletes from 32 regions of Russia started in main and shortened races. According to participants, the course was difficult, but interesting, with a lot of uphills and steep downhills. The race went across a roller ski course, the Ski Sport Centre Demino territory, surrounding villages, ford across the river Koloksha and along the Great Russian River Volga.
“Everything is very well organized here, accommodation and meals are great. This is one of the best marathons in Russia” said Korchazhkina Christina, the participant of the marathon.
Of course, there were bike breakdowns, blowouts and fallings, but excitable athletes returned to the race. For the second year in a row, Gogolevs family from Samara region is an absolute winner of 66 km race, Maksim and Elena recorded the best men’s and women’s results. Parallel to main and shortened races the team event took place. The first place went to the team “The Team Scott”, second place – Sports School No 19 (Yaroslavl), the third place got the team “KVMR”.
The Demino cycling marathon 2013 was attended by athletes, who performed well in Demino Ski Marathon Worldloppet 2013: Klimov Mikhail, Bizenkov Aleksey, Baryshnikov Aleksey, Matveeva Elena, Oleneva Viktoria and Garbuzova Tatyana. These and many other athletes have a chance to fight for the victory and prize-winning places in the overall standing of the Demino marathons Cup.
The Demino Cycling Marathon is the 2nd stage of the Demino marathons Cup. The Ski Marathon was held this year in March, and final, 3rd stage, running half-marathon will be held on September, 28, 2013.
