Merino Muster Set to Welcome Skiers Despite Challenging Snow Conditions

While New Zealand’s Merino Muster organizers have been facing a tough winter with little snowfall since mid-July, the Snow Farm grooming team has worked tirelessly to keep trails in good condition. Thanks to their dedication, a 2.89 km loop is being prepared, ensuring a 21 km Worldloppet course will be available this weekend. This means international skiers will still have the chance to collect their Worldloppet Passport stamp and experience the unique atmosphere of Merino Muster.

Beyond the racing, the Merino Muster continues to celebrate its strong community spirit. The traditional Worldloppet Masters Dinner will take place, featuring a special Māori welcome, recognition of long-time participants Alastair and Ann Smail—who will be honored for completing 25 and 26 Merino Muster races respectively—and the presentation of commemorative bibs to skiers with more than five starts.

While the surrounding hills may look bare, the passion and commitment of the organizing team ensure that the Merino Muster remains a highlight of the southern hemisphere skiing calendar—combining sport, culture, and camaraderie in true Worldloppet tradition.
