MERINO MUSTER PRESS INFORMATION

The Merino Muster Committee and the Snow Farm are the driving force behind the fundraising event “Merino Muster & Snow Farm supporters’ dinner” at the Lake Bar on Thurs, 25 June from 6 pm.

Over the years, the Snow Farm has been instrumental in getting local children and adults into cross country skiing and this year they would like to see the locals joining the international visitors in the Merino Muster cross country ski race. Thus, the proceeds from the Merino Muster & Snow Farm supporters’ dinner will go towards programs to encourage the locals to participate in this fabulous race.

There will be yummy food & drink (Merino Muster welcome drink, ham on the bone, beef roast, salads, seasonal vegetables and a Lake Bar surprise dessert), kids’ entertainment and an auction of amazing goodies on the night. Kids can dress up as Merino sheep and win some great prizes. Tickets will be $ 50 per person or $ 120 for a family of four. Tickets can be booked with Mary Lee on 021766910 or [email protected]

The 21st Merino Muster on Saturday, 15 August this year is New Zealand’s premier cross country skiing event. It has a category for every ability level. The event celebrates the Snow Farm’s history as a high country sheep station and the race symbolizes the high country tradition of mustering the sheep from the high mountain tops to lower elevations at the start of winter.
They are three distances to choose from with 7km for novice skiers, 21 km and 42 km for cross country ski athletes. Snow Farm offers many weekly programmes which will teach skiers all the skills they need to conquer this event.

The Merino Muster is an associate member of the prestigious Worldloppet series of international cross country ski events. Worldloppet is a union of the most famous cross country ski races in the world attracting over 120,000 skiers annually. The goal of Worldloppet competitors is to compete in as many events in the 20 countries associated with Worldloppet to gain a stamp in their Worldloppet passport to become a master.
