+Update+ Only 400 elite skiers at Vasaloppet 2021
This week the OC of the Swedish Worldloppet race, Vasaloppet, has decided on how to carry out their events in 2021 due to the COVID pandemic. The king of cross-country ski races will take place, as planned, on the 7th march. But only elite skiers will stand on the starting line in Sälen. Usually thousands of popular skiers participate at Vasaloppet, but this winter, only a starting field of about 400 elite skiers (300 men and 100 women) will hit the tracks to Mora. Same counts for the Tjejvasan taking place a week earlier – limited to 100 participants.

And what about the popular skiers?
The organizers want to “make it possible for our Vasaloppet friends to reach a finish line for their training in a way that is adapted to the ongoing pandemic”, says Johann Eriksson, acting CEO at Vasaloppet. Everyone who wants, can book Vasaåket and participate on a day of their choosing between Friday, February 12th and Sunday, March 7th. You have the possibility, to choose between the four distances 10, 30, 45 and 90 kilometers. Also on offer is Vasaåket Natt (a night race). If you are among the 25.000 who already registered for the Vasaloppet Winter Week 2021, your registration will automatically be transformed to the corresponding day and distance in Vasaåket.
Up until Wednesday, November 18th 13:00, anyoneee who wants can still register as usual for a Vasaloppet Winter Week race which will then be transferred to a Vasaåket. From this date on only sales for Vasaåket 2021 will be possible.
