Organisers of Jizerská 50 struggle with warm and rainy weather

The unusually warm weather in early January and rain are complicating the preparations for the forthcoming 46th Jizerska 50 CSOB Pojistovny that will take place in Bedrichov on 11-13 January 2013. The whole track is now covered in snow and there is a supply of technical snow in the stadium at the starting and finishing lines; but the weekend weather forecast is making us worried. However, we are ready to fight it.

The current forecasts have announced temperature of 3-4° C and rain in Bedrichov during the weekend. Weather is supposed to improve as late as in the middle of the next week when the temperature should drop and it should once again start snowing. The key date, on which it will be necessary to make a decision on the fate of the race, is Tuesday 8 January 2013.

With technical and natural snow, it is possible to cover approximately the first two kilometres of the track from the starting line in Bedrichov to the crossroads U Buku and then to Nova Louka; in other critical places such as Krasna Mari or Cihadla, there will be dozens of organisers ready to throw snow on the track as soon as it stops raining.

“Worries about weather are a part of Jizerska 50 every year and, regrettably, this year is no exception to that. We believe that weather in the forthcoming days will be more merciful than the weather forecasts have been up until now and that the race will not be at risk. Preparations for the entire Jizerska 50 are fully under way,” says Martin Koucky, the secretary of Skiklub Jizerska Padesatka.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that weather during the forthcoming weekend will not thwart Jizerska 50. We will be bringing you up-to-date information on the condition of the tracks on the website at www.jiz50.cz and on the Facebook profile.
