Roman Fosti took the victory of the SEB 31st Tartu Running Marathon (23 km), held today, on May 12th (time 1:15:50). Second place place went to last year’s winner Viljar Vallimäe (time: 1:15:57) and third place was taken by Dmitri Aristov (time 1:18:15), the winner of the 1st Tartu City Marathon that was held in october 2012.

The first woman was Natalia Sokolova with 1:26:19 (overall 24^th place), second was last year’s winner Evelin Talts time 1:30:36 (overall 49^th) and third woman to cross the finish line was Lily Luik with 1:30:55 (overall 51^st).

The fastest man today, Roman Fosti, was very pleased with his victory: “I appreciate the first place a lot as SEB Tartu Running Marathon is one of the best competitions in Estonia. I don’t have such similar big run victories from earlier, thus today is special for me. In around 6 kilometers I fell behind Viljar about 100 meters and I almost had a feeling I have to reconcile with the second place, but after 10 kilometers I felt good again.” Fosti also won two sprints.

Viljar Vallimäe commented on his result: “Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to defend my first place but I’m sure last year’s victory wasn’t the last one! I hope to compete in the future as well, so it’s not a big deal.”

Third place owner Dmitri Aristov said: “I’m very pleased with the result! I chose simple tactics: to stay in the group. I will definitely come next year as well and will try to win. Anything can happen!”

First woman, Natalia Sokolova from St. Petersburg, Russia, had similar tactics: “I just ran. I loved the course – very good and interesting. It was my first time to take part in Tartu Running Marathon and I will definitely come back next year to defend my victory!”

Kunnar Karu, the race director said the competition started successfully: “So far, so good – even little rain in the morning stopped in time and the weather was perfect. I’m glad that next to the champions many regular sportsmen have come to start. Hopefully, there will be more than 4000 finishers!”
