Sapporo Skimarathon accessible only for nationals
On February 6th the Sapporo Skimarathon is going to take place. Unfortunately it is not possible to enter Japan for international skiers, which makes the 42nd edition of Japan’s Worldloppet race a domestic event. As an alternative, the organizers are offering a virtual edition of Japan’ biggest ski marathon: The Fun on Sapporo Virtual Race. Everybody can join the Sapporo Skimarathon virtually and do the challenge from home.

A new race course
The skiers from Japan, who will join the Sapporo Skimarathon, will experience a new race course. The venue moved to Shirahatayama Open Stadium, which will host both start and finish of the race. This stadium is a cross-country skiing facility opened in 1990, managed by Sapporo city. The FIS authorized course was established there for the first time in Asia. Many international events have been held there such as the 15th Winter Universiade in 1991, the 2007 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo and others. Participants are going to ski two 25 km laps on a hilly terrain. The new location is also bringing more safety in terms of snow.
