Sirdal Skimarathon

Sirdal Skimarathon

Skimaratons keep on beeing popular and we can see that when multiple Worldloppet races are becomming fully booked way ahead of race day.

Last winter Sirdal Skimaraton was a new skimaraton in Norway. It got more participants than most had guessed up front and the arrangement went well according to plan.
In times like this when skimarathons are popular it takes more to stay ahead. Participants have more races to choose between and service differs.

To top the serviceoffers Sirdal Skimarathon is rising the bar. This year the race offers free courses in ski techniqe and marathon waxing to participants. These extra services are free, or should we say included in race fee. A race fee that is unchanged from last years low cost.

Improvements can be so much. During the summer and fall race-personell were out in the forest and cut trees to make race track better, wider and gentler. Summer is not a relaxing time of year.

A popular offer we have seen in several Worldloppet races are the option of both full marathon and half marathon. Sirdal Skimarathon offered the same and even for those that found the full marathon too hard they could just go to finish line after half marathon and get registration changed to that. Some skiers are not confident that thet can do a full marathon so it’s good they can change into a half marathon. With this years addition of free courses in ski techniques and marathon waxing more skiers will hopefully get more confident in doing a full marathon.

In October 2012 the race arranged a free workout course with Audun Laugaland as instructor. Audun is from Team United Bakeries and is top ten in Vasaloppet and Marcialonga. Course subject was how to excercise in an effective way on your way to a skimarathon, before the snow falls. A large group showed up and hopefully many of them now feel more prepared for Sirdal Skimaraton this winter.

For coming years the service-bar will rise again and Sirdal Skimarathon will deliver. So put on your skis and join a Worldloppet race or one of the many other skimarathons.
