Perfect Conditions for a Memorable Race

The 44th edition of the Sapporo International Ski Marathon, held on February 4th, provided cross-country skiing enthusiasts with a perfect blend of challenging terrain and breathtaking scenery. The day’s conditions, characterized by intermittent clouds and occasional blue skies, set the stage for an unforgettable experience along the picturesque Shirahatayama course. With the temperature at -5.6 ℃, a comfortable snow temperature of -5.0 ℃, and an 86 % humidity level, skiers were treated to an optimal environment that allowed them to fully enjoy the race without the interference of strong winds.

Diverse Participation and Notable Milestones

Attracting a remarkable 908 registrations, the Sapporo International Ski Marathon remains a beacon in Japan’s cross-country skiing calendar, welcoming participants from elite skiers to enthusiastic children. This inclusivity was highlighted by the emergence of several New Masters, with 15 skiers achieving the remarkable feat of completing their 10th 50k or 25k races (Gold and Silver Masters) in Sapporo. This accomplishment not only reflects personal triumphs but also underscores the international interest for Sapporo Skimarathon.

Local Heroes Shine: Yoneda Kazumi and Misaki Taiga Claim Victories

Yoneda Kazumi secured victory in the women’s category, while Misaki Taiga claimed the overall title, both proudly representing Japan. Their outstanding performances added a local touch to the international event. As the 44th Sapporo International Ski Marathon concludes, the global cross-country skiing community eagerly anticipates the next stages of the Worldloppet circuit: The Gatineau Loppet in Canada on February 17th and 18th, same as the Tartu Maraton in Estonia.
