Ushuaia Loppet news
Members of the Club Andino Ushuaia reported a suspension of the FIS races that were scheduled for day 25, 26 and 27 of July in Ushuaia.
Sebastián Menci, member of the CAU and organizer of competitions, said that this season the climate does not help in the realization of winter sports. The Francisco Jerman track circuits intended for competitions of ski, according to the FIS calendar programmed, are snow-free and do not possess equipment for making artificial snow. It is for these reasons that the Club Andino Ushuaia has decided to suspend the FIS races scheduled. Also said how difficult this decision was, but taking into account the interests of long distance runners in different parts of the world that had reported their presence and participation in competitions, we decided together with the members of the Sub-Commission of cross-country skiing suspension until the next season, and avoid travel and expenses of the differents participants.
The CAU organizes the first competition of the international FIS calendar which gives points in the world ranking.
Pablo Valcheff, CEO of Ushuaia Loppet & Marchablanca, told that they will wait until the end of this week and then decide the steps to follow regarding all events of the international month of cross-country skiing to be done in the month of August. The CAU has achieved last June that Ushuaia Loppet & Marchablanca now are members of the Worldloppet family and that races are part of the official world circuit since 2015.
Valcheff says that it has been a great bet of the Club Andino Ushuaia, the Infuetur, the Municipality of Ushuaia, the backing and support of the National Ministry of Tourism, the FASA and private sponsors that for several years help to the correct development of events.”We look forward to have a big snowfall in the areas of the slopes and improve conditions to reach the competition schedule”.
