Kangaroo Hoppet

Ushuaialoppet, Kangaroo Hoppet & Merino Muster preparing snowy tracks

As Worldloppet is the global federation for Skimarathons, we have no summer break! Three of our member races are located on the southern hemisphere, hence take place during the period of time “we” call summer, “their” winter. All three southern races, Ushuaialoppet, Kangaroo Hoppet and Merino Muster have received snow and wintery conditions. The track preparation is on the way in Argentina, Australia and New Zealand.

Snow right in time for Ushuaialoppet

Long time the OC of our Argentinian member, the Ushuaialoppet, had to fear. What had begun as a great winter with early snow falls turned out into mild temperatures. White turned into brown. But only last week the snow has returned to Tierra del Fuego. Right in time. Now the organizers have to work under high pressure to prepare the tracks and get them ready until August 20th, when the Ushuaialoppet is once more opening the Worldloppet season.

Potential change of races course for Kangaroo Hoppet

Also the mountains of Falls Creek/Australia have received a lot of snow in the beginning of July. All tracks were skiable quite early in the Australian winter. But over the past weeks the temperatures have climbed and also rain caused some damage on the tracks. Anyhow, still the major part of the tracks is in good condition, but the organizers of Kangaroo Hoppet have to consider changes of the race course. Next decisions will be made on August 16th, ten days before race day.

Great tracks at Kangaroo Hoppet 2022.

Great conditions for Kern and Diggins at Merino Muster

It seems like our friends in New Zealand can’t wait for September to come. The musterers are skiing already for several weeks on parts of the Merino Muster race course. But since last week – when another half a meter snow has arrived – the whole race course is groomed and in great condition. A fact that the US American ski stars Julia Kern and Jessie Diggins will enjoy: Both will start at Merino Muster 2023 on September 2nd.
