Vasaloppet China 2025 ready to kick off the Worldloppet winter

This Saturday, the 23rd edition of Vasaloppet China 2025 will take place in the heart of northern China’s Jilin Province, marking the grand kickoff of the Worldloppet winter season. Asia’s unique cross-country skiing event is held in the scenic Jingyuetan Park in Changchun.

Ready for an International Skiing Event

With its rich history and growing reputation, Vasaloppet China 2025 promises to be a special edition, featuring the largest international field in its history. Skiers from across the globe will join China’s own elite athletes to tackle the beautiful yet challenging course. This year’s race has also garnered significant attention with the attendance of top Chinese sports officials, highlighting its prestige and importance.

As the only Chinese cross-country skiing event on the FIS calendar, Vasaloppet China is a true standout. Its connection to the iconic Swedish Vasaloppet adds a touch of Nordic tradition, making it a unique experience for skiers seeking both competition and cultural immersion.

A Course for All Skill Levels

Unlike its Swedish counterpart, which spans 90 km, Vasaloppet China takes skiers on a picturesque 25km loop course through Jingyuetan Park. Participants in the 50 km main race complete two laps of the course, which features a mix of challenging hills and flatter sections that appeal to skiers of all levels.

The opening hilly section, once part of a World Cup event won by skiing legend Thobias Angerer, offers skiers a taste of professional-grade terrain. The flatter sections that follow provide a welcome relief and showcase the natural beauty of the park, even in its frosty winter splendor.

Ideal Conditions await the field

Skiers should prepare for typical temperatures around -10°C, though warmer weather has surprised participants in past editions. The race relies on top-quality artificial snow, ensuring excellent skiing conditions regardless of natural snowfall.

On the competitive front, all eyes will be on Fabian Stocek of Czechia, who returns to defend his title. Challengers include Lorenzo Busin from Italy, Markus Hallen from Sweden, and Magnus Waaler from Norway, among others. China’s own elite skiers and athletes from Kazakhstan are also poised to make their mark.

A Race Worth Adding to Your 2026 Calendar

Vasaloppet China isn’t just about the race; it’s a complete experience. From the vibrant opening ceremony to the elegant Vasa Banquet and Prizegiving Gala, this event offers participants and spectators alike a taste of camaraderie and celebration.

Skiers should mark their calendars and start dreaming of a winter escape to Changchun, China.
