Worldloppet-Weather: Steady Winter Days

Worldloppet-Weather with Siegerwetter

Whatever You Want

Skiing, snowboarding, hiking, cross-country skiing – what seemed impossible for a few weeks in 2015, is now possible nearly everywhere. As long as you are going to the mountains where enough artificial, but also natural snow, could be found. Low pressure areas have brought snow even in the South Alps of Austria, Italy and Switzerland and winter is still going to stay for a while, so whatever you like to do – (you can and should) do it, as long as you are not particular concerning the weather: pressure areas with a lot of sun for Europe over a few days are not really in sight.

So this week will continue the same way as last week stopped. Short sunny periods mixed with cloudy ones and especially at the weekend and in the beginning of next week also a bit of snow is possible, especially in the Middle of Europe. It may snow a lot in the mountains of Italy and Slovenia as well as in the South Alps of Switzerland and Austria. What is quite sure is that it is going to get mild again at the weekeend – but just for the weekend, on the other days temperatures stay like normal in February, which is also good news for the Finlandia Hiihto in Lahti on coming Saturday. There won’t be a lot of sun – many clouds will cover the sky, but it should stay dry most of the time. A few flakes are possible sometimes, especially in the afternoon, but surely not a lot and generally speaking it should be a dry day with temperatures around -2 degrees in the afternoon.

So, if you still don’t know what to do at the weekend: Go out skiing yourself or – even better – participate at Finlandia Hiihto or watch the race live online. Lahti is the ninth largest city in Finland with its more than 100 000 inhabitants. The city is known by tourists especially for its environmental expertise and for being a renowned center for design. Did you see the ski jumping in Lahti a few days ago? Was really exciting, wasn’t it? But I am sure, Worldloppet race on Saturday will be even more exciting. And I promise you, the race will also be more exciting than the weather this week.
