Marcialonga and Tartu Maraton get permission to take place
The pandemic made this winter very uncertain for race organizers and skiers. Which races can take place, which not, which alternatives are offered? The races depend on the local authorities and they change regulations continuously. Many organizers wait for final decisions, while two Worldloppet member races got positive answers.
Marcialonga will take place under special conditions
The Italian government now has published the latest regulations before Marcialonga’s race day, so now we have security: the race will take place on January 31st. It will be open also for popular skiers but of course under the special conditions.
Only skiers who are registered for the race are allowed to reach Val di Fiemme e Fassa (Marcialonga is inserted in the list of the Italian National Olympic Committee). If Italian authorities stop you, you need to show your registration, an autodeclaration for your displacement and documentation required to enter Italy.

Once you made it to Val di Fiemme e Fassa and you come to the start, your temperature will be checked, you need to show your autodeclaration form again and of course you need to wear a face mask until one minute before the start. In the finish a new mask will be handed over to you by volunteers. The race itself will be without any spectators and the race course doesn’t lead through the villages as the years before.
Of course there will be no celebrations etc. but there will be a race, there will be a Marcialonga in 2021.
Find here the full information about your journey to the Marcialonga 2021.
Tartu Maraton got permission to take place
Also in Estonia the Worldloppet member race can celebrate today: The Estonian government yesterday decided to give the permission for Tartu Maraton to take place in 2021. The Minister of Culture allowed six stages belonging to the Estoloppet ski marathon series as an exception. That includes the Tartu Maraton.

Now the organizers have to work with high pressure (and pleasure) to plan the race day according to the regulations and to guarantee a safe marathon for racers, organizers and volunteers.
The weather is playing its role: There is enough snow and cold temperatures for the whole 63 km between Otepää and Elva to be groomed.
Three more possibilities to collect a stamp in your Passport
So at least these two possibilities are offered to those who want to collect stamps for their Worldloppet Passport. Three more races offer a non-competitive “open track” event, which count for the Worldloppet Passport: Engadin Skimarathon Individual, VasaAket & WinterBirken QR.
Several other Worldloppet races have already released a virtual event and now wait for final decisions from their local authorities. We keep you up-to-date on this website. Check out all virtual races gathered in the Virtual Racing League.
