Toxic ski waxes on trails and slopes are finally a thing of the past: Sinnotec Innovation Consulting GmbH presents Flexxit, a fluoride-free glide coating with innovative ceramic technology. It is quick and easy to apply and delivers outstanding performance on trails and slopes. Natural Performance Flexxit from Wiesbaden (GER) stands for maximum sporting enjoyment in harmony with nature. “Our goal was to develop new products that are fluoride-free and biodegradable,” explains Dr. Jörg Rathenow, managing director and inventor of Flexxit. “At the same time, we wanted to achieve even greater speed and performance.”

“With Flexxit, my skis feel significantly faster, and it lasts forever – simply world-class!”, says Thomas Bing, Olympic participant, World Cup contender, Continental Cup racer, German Championship gold medalist, Ski Classics skier, and 2nd place winner at Vasaloppet China 2024.

Easy to apply for everyone

Flexxit is water-based, biodegradable, fluoride-free, and contains potassium, which acts as a plant fertilizer when worn down, thereby protecting the environment. The ceramic dry lubrication is simple, fast, and clean to apply by both amateur and professional athletes without the need for a ski workshop – it can be done anywhere (on the slopes, in gondolas, parking lots, hotels, etc.). Thanks to its new ceramic technology, the coated surface becomes extremely hard, ensuring long-lasting high speed over many kilometers. The speed remains consistent because the ceramic does not wear off and does not pick up dirt. The ceramic is also flexible under varying temperature conditions, making it suitable for fast and agile alpine, touring, and cross-country skis as well as snowboards.

Regardless of snow conditions, Flexxit eliminates the need for re-waxing. Once applied, the ceramic coating guarantees up to 7 days of uninterrupted trail fun.

Flexxit is available online in sponge applicator bottles or pump spray bottles as part of the Speed Finish, Pro, and Free Series.

Chemist and recreational skier warns

In recent years, toxic and environmentally harmful fluorinated ski waxes have been banned by the FIS and IBU, especially in ski racing. The problem: abrasion on trails or slopes releases toxic fluorine from the ski base into the snow. These controversial fluorinated waxes are not biodegradable and harm humans, animals, and nature, particularly affecting the Alpine region, which serves as a water reservoir. They are also suspected of being carcinogenic and harmful to reproduction. High temperatures during application release toxic fluorine particles, which, especially in enclosed spaces, enter the respiratory system. Similarly, toxic dust is created when fluorinated waxes are polished onto skis, releasing particles into the environment.

“The risk of endangering one’s health by regularly waxing downhill or cross-country skis and snowboards is something no one should take,” advises Dr. Rathenow. This is why the two international ski associations, FIS and IBU, have advocated banning health- and environmentally harmful fluorinated waxes.

Dr. Jörg Rathenow is a passionate chemist, founder, and managing director of the Wiesbaden-based company Sinnotec Innovation Consulting GmbH and has been a leading developer of Flexxit and CERAX for over 20 years.

“Winter sports have their dark sides, both for humans and nature,” warns Dr. Jörg Rathenow, urging caution. As an avid recreational skier with years of experience, he speaks from personal insight. The chemist pursued the idea of developing a room- temperature curing, highly glidable coating free of health and environmental risks.

For those seeking perfectly prepared skis for the long term, Flexxit is the ideal solution: simple, flexible, and safe to use, with environmentally friendly materials. Additionally, due to the hardness of the ceramic, it does not wear off, dirt from the trail or slope cannot adhere, and it remains fast for a long time. This combination of excellent speed, outstanding environmental compatibility, and easy application has already been confirmed multiple times in international competitions, youth training, ski jumping, and extensive tests.
